Last October 1, we got to celebrate our country’s seventieth birthday at school.

Our class made red paper flowers—my flower was lopsided (I glued two petals together), but the teacher said it was “super cool.” We lined up in the playground, waving small flags. When the music started, everyone cheered so loud my ears buzzed.

After that, we had a snack party. My deskmate brought candies shaped like stars, and we shared them while talking about the parades we saw on TV. “The tanks looked so tough!” he said, making a “strong guy” face.

Celebrate days aren’t just about fun—they make me feel proud, too. Our country is 70 years old, and it’s getting better every year. Next time we celebrate its birthday, I’ll make a perfect paper flower (I promise!).
